The Adversary - Day 3

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…” 1 Peter 5:8

No one can fight against God and win. All who fight against God will be punished by Him. Yes, God is a God of love, grace, and mercy. But He is also the God of justice. and will not tolerate rebellion and disobedience. God, being perfect in all His ways is always good, even when He has to uphold His justice against those who violate His commands.

Lucifer and many angels rebelled against their loving creator, and it was a terrible sin to do so. Revelation 12:7-9 describes the big battle in heaven using figurative language, “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” What a horrible and sad event. Revelation 12:4 says, “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth…” In the symbolic language of Revelation this explains that one third of all the angels followed Lucifer in rebellion.

Lucifer is now known as Satan, which means adversary or enemy. He is also known as the Devil, which means slanderer, accuser, or false accuser. Satan has many followers, angels who are now known as devils, demons, evil spirits or unclean spirits. As it says in our opening scripture, their desire is not to just play tricks on people but to devour and destroy all they can. John 8:41 says, “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

Satan and his devils now live on earth until the end of time, the final judgement when they will be cast into the lake of fire. So when you are being accused and condemned in your heart and feel beaten down by the enemy, turn to Jesus and read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Verse 11 says, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

Thank you, Father, for Jesus! Victory in Jesus. Amen.”
