The Accuser - Day 4

“Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” Proverbs 3:7

Satan and his demons now roam the earth. Being expelled by God from heaven to earth, they go about plotting and looking for ways to get back at God. Job 1:7 speaks of Satan “going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

Satan is God’s great enemy, and ours too, and will never cease accusing us before God. We see another example of this in Zechariah 3:1: “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.” The word “resist” is from the Hebrew word we normally translate as as “Satan”, the verb form which means “to accuse” or “slander”. The chapter is a beautiful picture of the High Priest, coming before God, bringing the blood sacrifice for his sin and God rebuking Satan and receiving Joshua. Praise God for He is the Lord, who pursues sinners. 2 Chronicles 16:9 says,  For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” Satan is looking for those whom he can devour, God is looking to save those whose heart is toward Him.

Let’s go back to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They are unaware of all Satan has done. They are living in God’s perfect creation and as yet unaffected by Satan’s wicked schemes. The best part for Adam and Eve is first with their perfect relationship with God, and second, with their perfect relationship with each other.

They still had to obey God’s only command which was not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They know, because God had told Adam that if they did, they would die. If they chose to live independently from God and sin, they would suffer the consequences, death. Their wonderful relationship with God would end. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” Spiritual death leads to physical death which leads to eternal death, being separated from God forever in the lake of fire that God made for Satan and his demons. Matthew 25:41 says, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

“Thank you, Father, for always pursuing me. Give me the burning desire to pursue you. Amen.”
