Law and Order - Day 3

"O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches." Psalms 104:24

I absolutely love that God didn’t create the Sun until day four of creation. Though we know that our plant life needs sunlight to live, God created the plants on day three to show us that He is the giver and sustainer of life. The Creator, not creation, gives and sustains life on earth. This order of creation is further proof that no man authored the Bible. Who, in their right understanding of how life works, would have the sun created on day four? If I were writing the events and order of creation, I certainly would have been smart enough to start with the sun. Praise God I am not in God’s place! In the wisdom of God, He gave us His creation in His order to display His glory and power.

In the verse above it says, “In wisdom thou made them all…”. 1 Corinthians 1:25 says, “because the foolishness of God is wiser than men…”. So then, the creation of heavenly lights tells us more about who God is. Our wise God is a God of law and order. He is neither arbitrary nor random. Genesis 1:14 tells us that the lights were created to “divide the day from the night, and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years…”. God’s creation follows an orderly pattern, a predictable pattern. Think about it: The earth spins on its axis at a predictable rate or speed, one rotation every day, or 24 hours. The earth also, as it spins on its axis, orbits around the sun at a rate of one complete orbit in one year. Day in, day out, year in, year out. Calendars are made on the basis that these movements do not change. The moon also, as we know it, affects the ocean tides; so tidal charts can be accurately created based on the orderly cycles of the moon. The other heavenly bodies as well follow this order in their movements, and they don’t change.

They do not change because God, who created them, does not change. He is perfect, orderly, unchanging, faithful, trustworthy, and dependable in all His ways. This God who made such vast numbers of heavenly lights spread throughout a seemingly immeasurable universe, is so beyond our understanding. God may fill all of His great universe, but the universe He created does not contain Him. God contains all of His creation. Though He made it all, He is separate from it. God’s creation is not God. The concept that God is everything and everything is God is not found anywhere in Scripture. God did not flippantly create, but carefully, thoughtfully, and lovingly devoted His full attention to create for us a wonderful place of intricate design that glorifies its creator. Day four of His creation displays the glory of God and His mighty handiwork for all to see. God is perfect in all His ways, the greatest and highest authority, and most worthy of all of our praise!

“Thank you, Father, for giving me your law and order on display in the brilliant lights you set in the heavens. Amen.”
