God’s Magnum Opus - Day 1

"For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else." Isaiah 45:18

We are still on day 6 of God’s creating. He started day 6 by creating all the animals. After He created the the wonderful variety of the animal world, God was now ready for His Magnum Opus. His Great Work is the very thing He had been working to prepare for all along…mankind. Everything is now ready for the creation of man. Man is from the Hebrew, “Adam”. This word is used for the male, both male and female, and for the individual person, Adam. The meaning is derived from the context in Scripture. Some, thinking “man” or Adam having an exclusive male connotation. want to steer away from the term given the current cultural sensitivities. The word, however, is given to us by God and it does apply to both genders and is entirely appropriate for us to use. It would do violence to Scripture to alter the words used since God Himself gives us the term in His own words in Genesis. After all, this is God’s Word, not ours.

Genesis 1:26-27 says, "And God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth’. So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." According to these verses, God planned to create both male and female before He actually created the first man, Adam. He said, “Let us make man…and let them have dominion…So God created man…male and female created He them.” Then He said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” The question arises, who was God speaking to, and to whom was he referring when He says “our”? Only God can create, so He was not talking about angels or any other created beings that already existed. He was referring to the three-fold nature of the trinity: The Godhead; the Son; and the Spirit; and they were conversing among themselves about the form the man was to take.

“Thank you, Father, for such revealing insights, for creating everything for my enjoyment, and for creating me in your image. Amen.”
