God is Imminent - Day 7

"O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens." Psalm 8:1

God reveals Himself and who He is by what He says, and backed up by what He does. God displays His glory in each of His creative acts. Everything He has made shouts out to us aspects of who God is, His attributes and His wonderful, glorious character. If we just take day one alone, we can make quite a list of attributes and character qualities God has revealed about himself. An attribute is something God is. But of course, we are using human words to try and describe “the indescribable”. Lets think about these attributes of God that He revealed about Himself on day one of creation:

  • Eternal

  • Everywhere (Omnipresent)

  • Independent

  • All-Knowing (Omniscient)

  • All-Powerful (Omnipotent)

  • Sovereign

  • Perfect

  • Good

  • Faithful

  • Orderly

  • Loving

I’m sure you can come up with more. Truly, “the heavens declare the glory of God…” Psalm 19:1. We are totally surrounded by the proofs of God’s existence. With each new day He wakes us up and reminds us He is God. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen by the things which are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…” That means that it is evident to all people that almighty God created all things. The evidence is clear and unarguable just from what we see in our natural world. So yes, we can learn a great many things about God by our observation of what He has made.

But to gain a better understanding of who God is we must go to God’s Word - the Bible. What we believe about God must be based on Scripture. For there, God tells us about Himself and what He has done. He was there. From before the beginning, He was there. He alone was there at the beginning of all things, and He alone can tell us how created everything. From the beginning, we can see that God was imminent. Imminent means “here and now”. That means wherever you go, God is there. A.W. Tozer says “God is above all things, beneath all things, outside of all things, and inside of all things. God is above but He is not pushed up. He is beneath but is not pressed down. He is outside but not excluded. He is inside, but he is not confined. God is above all things presiding, beneath all things sustaining, outside all things embracing, and inside all things filling.” (from “Attributes of God” - see Resources ) God is perfect in all His ways, the greatest and highest authority, and most worthy of all our praise!

“Thank you, Father, for revealing yourself so clearly to me in creation and in the Bible. Amen.”
