The First Command - Day 5

“The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” Psalm 24:1

God, who created everything, is the rightful owner of everything. Since He owns everything, He alone has the right to do with His creation what He wills. That is why God can put the first man and woman in charge to have dominion of, and over, every living thing. God also has the right to tell them what to do, where to go, and how to live. They belong to God as well. Genesis 1:28 says, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” God’s first command to Adam and Eve was to have babies and spread out over the whole earth. They were also to take dominion over, manage, or to become stewards over, everything He created on the earth.

This is the first stewardship; “Moreover, it is required in a steward, that a man be found faithful” - 1 Corinthians 4:2. When God put Adam and Eve in this position, and gave them their work to do, He did not intend to leave them on their own. Our God is a relational, living God. He desires a love relationship with the souls He creates, and each person is an individual uniquely created by God. Once created, each individual will live forever. This has huge ramifications that God takes very seriously, and so should we. Isaiah 45:18 says, “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.”

God is the Great Almighty who spoke all things into existence! All His work is based on who He is. Everything rests on the solid sure foundation of the All-Knowing, All-Wise, All-Powerful, and absolutely perfect God. And there is nothing random or arbitrary to what God does. He created with purpose, and that purpose will be realized in the human beings He created to inhabit the world He formed. Isaiah 45:19 says,  I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, ‘Seek ye me in vain’: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.”

Thank you, Father! Praise the Lord! He has not left us to grope around in the dark. He has not left us without a witness. God speaks and He shouts to us through the pages of His Word, the Bible! The Lord is righteous, which means He is just and always right in all He does. What an amazing love God has for us. He commands us to seek Him. But before we can, He is already in pursuit of us. We can find Him only because He first found us. (See 1 John 4:10,19)

“Thank you, Father, for such an amazing revealing of your love for me. You found me first! Amen.”
