Unchanging - Day 6

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." Isaiah 55:11

In other words, what God says, He does. We are talking about our all-mighty, all-knowing God, who is perfect in all His ways. He always does what He says, always follows through, and He always completes what He starts. These are a lot of “always”, but when applying it to God, it’s never hyperbole.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He which began a good work in you will perform it (finish it, complete it, perfect it) unil the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

We use the word “immutable” to describe how God does not change or mutate. He is not one way yesterday, and then another way today. God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Malachi 3:6 He declares, “I am the Lord, I change not.” God cannot change. In A.W. Tozer’s book “The Pursuit of God”, he says, “God is imuutable. He has never changed, and can never change in the smallest measure. To change He would need to go from better to worse, or from worse to better. He can not do either, for being perfect he can not be more perfect, and if He were to become less perfect, He would be less than God.” Nor can God lie or fail to do anything He says He will do. As we journey through the Bible with God, we will see that God never changes.

"Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure…yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it." Isaiah 46:9-11

God’s Word is true, powerful and unchanging. Have you ever thought about the implications if God could change? God’s Word says, we who believe in Him will live forever with Him in perfect eternal peace in His holy presence. But what if God could change His mind? Heaven could turn into hell sometime in the future at His whim. That is not a pleasant thought at all. But a change-prone God is not the God of the Bible.

The Bible, the Word of the Lord, is based on who God is: He is immutable! God is perfect in all His ways, the greatest and highest authority, and most worthy of all our praise. His Word will be, and will always be, accomplished down to the last detail…because the Bible is the very breath of God, speaking the very Word of God, and kept by the very Spirit of God, forever. God, who spoke all things into existence, at the beginning, is the same God who continues to speak to us today through the Bible.

“Thank you, Father, for being my great and unchanging God, and I can depend on You, always and forever, for You never fail. Amen.”
