A God of Order - Day 7

"The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law." Deuternomy 29:29

God is perfect in all His ways. The greatest and highest authority, and most worthy of all our praise! God is sovereign. He is the sovereign Lord. God does not receive advice, nor does He take orders. He has no second in command. “I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another…" Isaiah 42:8. He created time, so has already experienced all our tomorrows. God is in complete and total control. He is “Upholding all things…” Hebrews 1:3, which means that without God being in absolute authority, there would be no creation. In other words, God holds the world in His loving hands. This and more He has revealed to us in the Bible. Scripture contains everything God wants us to know. We can not know everything there is to know about God, but we do get to spend eternity constantly learning new things about Him. Everything He wants us to know He has revealed to us in the Bible.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” The beginning was the first act of creation, and on day one of the first six days, God created the heaven and the earth, speaking into existence all the elements He needed for creating the physical universe.

"By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth...For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast." Psalm 33:6, 9

We have at the beginning, the heaven and earth; they are time, space and matter. At this point it is very important to point out that each verse in Genesis chapter one - except for verse one - starts with the Hebrew word for “and”. Thus, each clause in the chapter stitches together events chronologically and in sequence. Each verse follows the actions of the verse before it. The narrative in Genesis in chapter one tells us the steps God used as He brought form to the earth and life to the planet, order from chaos, and substance from the void.

In Genesis 1:2 there is no contradiction, but a statement of God’s initial bringing forth of all the elements on the way to creating a completed system. This first act of God creating was not yet complete. As described by Henry Morris (in his book “The Genesis Record”), “It may have been empty and uninhabited, but certainly it was not chaos-and-ruin. What God does, is based on who He is.” God is not the author (creator) of confusion (see 1 Corinthians 14:33). So, we know that whatever He does, it is never chaos or ruin. God was in the process of actively creating.

“Thank you, Father, for revealing to me who you are. It is comforting to know you are a God of order, and not random or chaotic, a God of life and peace. Amen.”
