The Perfect Gift - Day 3

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.” Psalm 107:1

“Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” Psalm 107:8

God does things well. He is now ready to give a wonderful gift to Adam. Adam has been very productive on his very first day of life. Two things were happening: he was classifying and naming the animals, and he was eagerly looking for his companion, the helpmeet God told him would be compatible for him. In failing to find a suitable candidate, God revealed to Adam that he is not an animal and only God could give to Adam what he needed.

Genesis 2:21-22 says, “And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” Only God! God, who created man from the dust of the ground is more than able to make a woman from Adam’s rib. Genesis 8:14 says, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” The obvious answer is well, “No!”. Remember this is still day 6 of creation. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.”

What love God has for us. Providing everything for us so we can fulfill the purposes for which He created us. Scripture says that Eve was also created in the image of God. That means she is a whole person. God created her with her own mind so she could think, reason, and communicate. He gave her emotions so she could feel joy, sadness, love, and so on. And she was given her own will so she could make her own choices, and choose to love God and Adam. Because God is perfect, everything He does is perfect, and Eve would have been made with a perfect mind, will, and emotions, fully able to relate to and communicate with God and Adam in that pure, innocent, and sin-free Eden. As Hudson Taylor put it, “God’s work, done God’s way, never lacks God’s provision.” God provided both Adam and Eve with each other so they could fulfill God’s work to which He called them.

“Thank you, Father, for your perfect gifts. Make me the person who is always grateful to you for every gift you bring my way. Amen.”
