The First Father - Day 4

“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45

“In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.” Job 12:10

After a brief review of creation up to day 6 in Genesis 2:4-6, God now takes us into the details of what He did on day 6 when He made Adam and Eve. This is described in Genesis 2:7-25. As God said in our opening verse, God made Adam first. Verse 7 says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” How did God from Adam’s body? Since God is spirit and doesn’t have a physical body, He couldn’t mold his body using hands. Psalm 33:6 says, “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” and verse 9 says, “For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” By His powerful Word did God form Adam’s body from the dust of the earth! Adam is the only one God created in this manner.

Genesis 2:8 says, “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” Out of His great love, God provided a beautiful place for Adam and Eve and He “put” them there. This place, the Garden of Eden, was a place of peace and joy. God didn’t give Adam a choice of which neighborhood he wanted to live in. God has the authority to arrange His creation as he pleases. Because He made both it and them, we belong to Him whether we believe it or not. God is perfect in all His ways, the greatest and highest authority, and worthy of all our praise! There is none greater than He.

Now God gave Adam the job of maintaining the garden. Adam’s work was would not be difficult at all at this point in time. A perfect environment without sin and the curse of death and corruption means there would be no weeds, thorns or thistles, crop-destroying pests, or diseases. What an amazing place in which to live. If you have ever grown a garden or have done any farming, you how devastating harmful plants and pests can be to crops. Can you imagine a perfect planting, a perfect cultivation and a perfect harvest? I can’t either, but I sure enjoy trying.

“Thank you, Father, for your loving care in your provision for our first Father, Adam, in such a wonderful garden. You are my joy. Amen.”
