And God Said… - Day 2

"Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:" Psalm 146:5-6

It is significant that Genesis 1:3 starts with the words, “And God said…” We shall notice that these three words are repeated as we journey through creation week. God spoke His creation into existence. Psalm 33:6 says, “By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made.” So, when God spoke, it was created, immediately and perfectly. God is able to make all things perfect because what He does is based on who He is. And God is of such flawless quality that what He creates will always be of the same flawless quality, perfection!

Genesis 1:3 says, “And God said, ‘Let there be light’: and there was light.” God is infinite, which means He is never-ending, boundless, and unlimited. This applies to everything that God is, and it applies to His knowledge. Because He is infinite in knowledge, He can create light. But what is the light He created? 1 Timothy 6:16 says of God, “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.” If God lives in eternal light then what is the light He created? The light God dwells in is His own light, the light of His uncreated glory. It is the spiritual light and splendor of God.

The light He created was the light for His creation to contrast the darkness. This light is not the Sun. God created what light is, by His command. Nothing is difficult for God. He is infinite in power. Genesis 1:4 says, “And God saw the light, that it was good.” At this point, there is no sin. By our understanding today, we qualify what we know by using degrees to define things. We say that this pizza is good, but that pizza is bad. Then we say that this book is okay, but that book is better. But before sin’s corruption, there are no degrees. When God proclaimed something good, it was perfect. So then, the light God created was perfect, for He said, “…it is good.”

The purpose of the light was to contrast the darkness. In God’s creation He gives us light to stimulate life. Genesis 1:5 says, “And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And the evening and morning were the first day.”

“Thank you, Father, for revealing your flawless character. That you show me in scripture that what you do is based on who you are. Amen.”
