Slaves to Sin - Day 7

“I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.” Isaiah 65:1

Adam and Eve, having disobeyed God by eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, are now plunged into the darkness of death. Being separated from God, their Heavenly Father, their Creator, they became slaves to sin under their new father, Satan. We must understand this difficult truth here, that there is no middle ground. We are children of God, or we are children of the Devil. It is one or the other.

John 8:34 says, “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” Romans 6:16 says, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” They, Adam and Eve, sinned and submitted themselves to God’s enemy, Satan. There was nothing they could do to right this wrong. God was the only one who could bring them back into His fellowship.

Praise be to God who is Undefeatable! As our opening Scripture proclaims, God shouts out to us in our darkness, “Behold Me!” Genesis 3:14 says, “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:” This is all we are told of what the serpent looked like. It is all God wants to reveal to us. We are not told how it moved about. We do know it did not slither on its belly like it does now.

It appears Satan has won a great victory against God. He came into God’s garden and snatched Adam and Eve away from God and succeeded in ushering in the ravages and evils of sin and death. Sin corrupts everything. All of God’s creation is now corrupted because Adam chose to sin. But let’s remember who God is. He was not surprised or caught off guard. He has already made provision for this. Before God created anything, He had a plan. God is perfect in all His ways, the Greatest and Highest Authority, and Most Worthy of all our praise!

“Thank You, Father, for who You are. Keep reminding me that You are the only undismayed and undefeatable Holy God, Amen.”
